A Case of Art Therapy using MANTRA for Patient Diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the improvement of symptoms and emotional changes in art therapy case study applying the Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adult (MANTRA) of NICE guidance in adult patient with anorexia nervosa. The participant of the this study was a 33-year-old woman who was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa at P university hospital. The study period of this participant was from November 13, 2017 to December 30, 2019. The results of this study were as follows: First, the pathological symptoms related to anorexia nervosa decreased in all four sub-regions of the K-EDE eating disorder assessment. In particular, eating concerns and weight concerns were significantly changed. Secondly, the participant¡¯s emotional changes were shown in the form of continued depression that repeated through ranges of severe to moderate states through K-BDI. Through STAI-X, the participant¡¯s emotional state changed from severe anxiety to mild anxiety. Third, art therapy applied MANTRA helped the participant to express suppressed negative emotions and confront her feelings of opposition and the self-contradictory aspects. The participant had a changed perspective on her recovery while being able to maintain and sustain a long-term treatment.
